Chicago Teams Sign Hearts

Chicago Teams Have ‘Heart’ For First-of-its-Kind Cardiovascular Awareness Campaign Launching February 1st on The Mag Mile

Chicago is more than the city of big shoulders, it’s the city of big hearts. This week, some of the city’s biggest sports teams and players helped support Northwestern Memorial’s Bluhm Cardiovascular Institute’s “Hearts a Bluhm” heart health awareness campaign which launches February 1st.

Players from both the Chicago Blackhawks and Cubs signed their respective five-foot tall acrylic hearts that will be prominently displayed during National Heart Health Month, February 1-28, down Michigan Avenue for the campaign.

As part of the annual Cubs Caravan tour on Wednesday, Jan. 12, members of the Chicago Cubs including Oneri Fleita, Randy Wells, Justin Berg, James Russell, Bob Dernier, DJ LeMahieu, Chris Carpenter, Ivan DeJesus, Dave Keller, and Bob Brenly, color commentator for the Cubs, visited Northwestern Memorial Hospital cardiology patients and their families.

Before making their way down to the hospital, the Cubs Caravan made its first stop at the “Hearts a Bluhm” Art Studio at The Shops at North Bridge to decorate special Cubs themed hearts. One of the two Cubs-inspired hearts was created in memory of Ron Santo reading, “Always in our hearts.”

Select Chicago Blackhawks players including Captain Jonathan Toews, Forward Patrick Sharp, Defenseman Brent Seabrook and Goaltender Marty Turco took time after their practice on Tuesday, Jan. 11, to sign their team’s hearts – one displaying the Blackhawks logo and another reading “One Goal One Heart.”

The Chicago White Sox, Bulls and Bears will also have hearts displayed on Michigan Avenue in February accompanied by heart health facts and tips.
